Put up your hand if you love to travel. Now, raise your other hand if you’re an independent woman. As most of my readers are I really wanted to do this post for you all. So this summer I’ve decided to travel to Rio de Janerio, Brazil and back to New York again, ALONE. When I told my mother the news she started to flip out about the dangers of young female college students traveling to different countries alone. So here are so tips on how to plan to safe trip!
1. Pre Trip
You need to figure out where exactly you want to go and how you want to get there. Then think about things like how are you going to get around, do you know the language, and where are the main tourists attractions,
2. Consider an online tour
3. Have a contingency plan for emergencies.
Make copies of you important documents(passport,id,SSN) also carry a emergency contact card with you at all times.
4. Be sure not to talk to strangers.
Like my mother always say, “Never let someone know that you are alone.”
And last but not least DO NOT forget to register to STEP! STEP, which stands for Smart Traveler Enrollment Program is a free service provided by the government to U.S. citizens who are traveling to, or living in, another country. After creating an account with the program, you can enter all of the details regarding your upcoming trip so the Department of State can assist you better in the case of an emergency while abroad be it legal, medical, or financial. If you’re from outside of the U.S., your country will have a similar program, so do a little research to find out where to register.
So be sure to have a blast wherever you go! Be sure to send us pictures to post on our website!!!
